1. Cable Beach
Cable Beach is Broome’s most iconic attraction, stretching for 22 kilometers with it’s white sand and turquoise waters. The beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying breathtaking sunsets. During the dry season the beach is patrolled, so make sure you swim between the flags. There has been the odd lost crocodile; so be croc wise!

2. Camel Rides
For a unique Broome experience, take a camel ride along the Cable Beach shore at sunset—an unforgettable way to take in the scenery. Alternatively, just take in the awesome lines of camels heading up and down the beach.

3. Gantheaume Point
Only a 6km drive from the town centre, Gantheaume Point offers dramatic red rock formations and stunning ocean views. If you get a low tide below 1.7m you will be able to explore the area to see ancient dinosaur footprints embedded in the rocks. Unfortunately we didn’t have the right tides when we visited, however we all had a great time exploring. Gantheaume Point is still well worth the visit, with an historic lighthouse and some excellent views.

4. Broome’s Chinatown
Stroll through Broome’s Chinatown to experience its unique blend of historic and contemporary influences. The area is home to eclectic shops, galleries, and eateries. Don’t miss the old Broome Post Office, and explore the vibrant street art that adds character to this bustling district.
5. Broome Courthouse Markets
Held every Saturday morning, the Broome Courthouse Markets are a must-visit for locals and visitors alike. Browse through a variety of stalls selling local produce, handmade crafts, and delicious food. It’s a great place to pick up souvenirs and enjoy some live music in a relaxed atmosphere. The mango and banana smoothies were a hit in our household.
6. Sun Pictures
This place is cool! Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest operating open-air cinema can be found in China Town. Established in 1916, this historic venue offers a nostalgic movie-going experience under the stars. Enjoy a classic film while surrounded by Broome’s warm evening air and unique ambiance. Make sure you take your pillows and blankets to be extra comfy! They play two movies a night, so check their website for current details.
7. Roebuck Bay
The red sand, green mangroves and milky blue water make this place and absolute photograsphers dream…but pretty hard to find. Our top tip for getting your instagramable photos at Roebuck Bay is to skip putting Roebuck Bay into Google maps and follow the below instructions to find Simpsons beach instead.

Directions to Simpsons Beach:
Getting here can be a little tricky so this may help!
- Head south from Broome towards the Broome Port Jetty
- Turn off of Port Drive near the Hovercraft entrance
- Look for a little sign that says “Beach Access”
- Follow the track and it’ll take you to the carpark
You’ll know you have the right place when you see a sign for Simpsons Beach.
8. Broome Dinosaur Adventures
If finding Dino footprints at Gantheaume Point got you excited. Why not jump on a dinosaur-themed tour to discover more about Broome’s prehistoric past. These tours provide insights into the dinosaur tracks found in the area and offer hands-on activities and educational experiences that are perfect for families and history enthusiasts.
9. Staircase to the Moon
We have been lucky to see the staircase to the moon twice. Unfortunately due to some haze the first one was a bit of a flop, but the second time we got to understand what the fuss was about! What a magical phenomenon, that only occurs 3 times a month from March to October. This natural spectacle happens when the rising moon’s reflection creates the illusion of a staircase on the mudflats of Roebuck Bay, caused by the extreme tidal changes. It’s a must-see for photographers, but if you don’t have a fandangle camera, it’s still one to sit back and enjoy.
10. Broome’s Night Markets
Experience the lively atmosphere of Broome’s Night Markets, held at Town beach, which typically run from June to October, every Thursday Night 4-8pm. These markets feature a variety of food stalls, arts and crafts, and live entertainment. It’s a great way to sample local cuisine and shop for handmade goods, grab a picnic blanket or pack your camp chairs and enjoy the evening.
11. Town Beach Play Precinct
If you have kids the Town Beach Playground, pump track and basketball court are one to add to the must visit list. The kids will be entertained for ages as they make their way through all the different activities
12. Broome Splash Park
If you venture a little further across the road from the Town Beach Play precinct, you’ll also find public toilets and a free spash park for all to enjoy.
13. Coconut Wells
I’d heard a little about this place but wow it’s so cool! Depending on the tides when you visit you could be rockpool hopping (low tide) or spashing around in the lagoon (high tide).
To get to Coconut Wells Lagoon it’s a 25 minute drive and 2WD accessible. To get to the rock pools however it’s an additional 5 minutes, but 4WD only. If you have a 2WD park in the lagoon carpark and it’s an easy 15 minute walk. Do not take your 2WD down the 4WD track, it’s really sandy and we spent a decent chunk of time helping a Toyota Corolla to get out of the mess they got themselves into.
If your lucky enough to visit on a ‘spring tide’, you can experience the uniqiue event locals call ‘the float’. Get to the lagoon before high tide with your pool noodles and lilows. Walk along the beach to the left to where the lagoon meets the ocean.
Jump on is as the lagoon starts to fill and you will drift all the way along the lagoon back to the parking lot!

14. James Price Point
What can we say about James Price Point? It really is worth the hour drive from Broome’s township. Visit for the day or camp on the cliffs or at the beach edge at several free camps on offer. The dramatic coastal area is loved for its rugged beauty and dramatic red cliffs. It’s a great location for beachcombing, picnicking, and enjoying the striking contrast between the red cliffs and the blue sea. Our boys spent hours crabbing here and enjoying the rockpools. A day visit wasn’t enough for us and we opted to stay 2 nights at the camp named ‘800m from James Price Point’ on WikiCamps.

15. Visit Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park
Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park is home to the largest number of crocodiles in Australia. One croc was even rehomed here in May 2024 after it made it’s way to Cable Beach. This is one we missed as the kids went with their grandparents. We heard it was super informative, and the crocs were fed at 3pm. The tour goes for a good hour and is well worth the admission fee.
16. Willie Creek Pearl Farm
You can either do a tour from Broome to Willie Creek Pearl Farm, or you can head out to the farm yourself on your way to Quangdong or James Price Point. You can visit Willie Creek even if you aren’t going to the pearl farm and its beautiful.
17. Hit up a Brewery
There are two brewery’s in Broome, both offering something different. Matso’s has been family run since 2000 and they are the kings of ginger beer! Spinifex is the new kid on the block and offers a superb, family friendly venue. A huge kid’s playground, LED screen for the sports lovers and even an area where furry friends are welcome. If your feeling thirsty we’d suggest heading to these two for the freshest beers in town.
18. Fishing Charter
No wonder Absolute Ocean Charters are the #1 full day fishing charter in Broome. Hubby and Mr 6 headed out on this one and from all reports it was a wonderful day! You get to keep what you catch and the boys came home with a freezer of filleted fish.

19. Bike Ride Cable Beach
The sand on Cable beach is compact and hard making it the perfect place to ride your bike without the traffic. You can ride all the way around to Gantheaume Point if you wish. I took our little man down there on his bike and he loved it.
20. Drive on Cable Beach
Due to the hard sand, heading down ontot he beach for sunset is a Broome must. Use the well driven 4WD only track from the North end of Cable Beach carpark to access the beach. Please be mindful of other beach goers as during certain hours the beach can be extremely busy.

21. Horizontal Falls
We were lucky enough to have family come and visit us in Broome and mind the kids while we spoilt ourself with the 24hr Luxury Horizonal Falls trip! We booked well in advance and got a discount through a special they ran on social media (follow their page). Was it worth it, yes, 100 times over! The day ran like a well-oiled machine and we did everything from seaplane and boat tours to eating fine dining food and staying out on a stunning house boat.
Located in the Buccaneer Archipelago, this natural wonder features fast-moving tidal waters that create a “horizontal” waterfall effect. We even got to chuck in a fishing rod and swim with sharks (cage separating us).

22. Broome Art Gallery
Explore local and regional art at the Broome Art Gallery, which features a diverse collection of works from Aboriginal artists and other Australian creatives. The gallery’s exhibitions change regularly, providing fresh and engaging experiences for art lovers.
23. Cultural Tour on the Dampier Peninsula
We joined the Southern Cross Cultural Walk Tour on the Dampier Peninsula. The tag-along tour starts from the Djarindjin Roadhouse and heads into Bardi-Jawi Country exploring the area known as Lullumb. The kids had a ball! We all learnt about bush medicine, local traditions, spearing fish and when the tides right our guide Bolo will show you mud crabbing too. The tour ends with a feast of cooked fish, oysters, other shell fish and damper. Brian Lee is the other well known tour in the area, which allows you to visit Cape Levieuque.
24. Learn how to mud crab
The family run campground at NEEM on the lower Dampier Peninsula had a great mud crabbing experience. Sarah, the daughter of the owners took us and another family out onto the mud flats in search of crabs. She taught us how to cook them up on our return to camp and it was over all a amazing experience. The kids are still talking about it!

25. Moontide Distillery
First Opened in 2020, this distillery is the only one in Broome. The owners say ‘We are immensely proud of our Moontide gins and spirits. They are as unique as the Kimberley; as unique as the pure monsoonal rainwater and local botanicals that flavour every bottle; complex and distinct’. If you enjoy a tipple and gins your thing then we think this distillery is one for the ‘must visit list’.
26. Fish Off Town Jetty
The Jetty at Town Beach reopened in November 2022 and is the perfect place to through a line in. Its 112m long and locals tell me you can catch Trevally, Queenfish, and Mackerel here. They say the odd Barramundi has been caught here too, but you must be lucky. Even if you’re not an avid fisher, a walk along the jetty is a beautiful stroll, that I really enjoyed.
27. Play a Round of Golf
For golf enthusiasts, the Broome Golf Club offers a stunning 18-hole course with spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes. The course is suitable for all skill levels and provides a unique golfing experience with its blend of tropical flora and scenic vistas.
28. Visit Shelters Jetty
This cute little jetty can be found in China Town and on high tide showcases stunning cloudy blue water against the green mangroves.
29. Broome Bird Observatory
This place is a bird watchers paradise. They run tours and education courses and also offer accommodation. Located about 25km outside of Broome on Roebuck Bay open 8am-4pm daily.
30. Reddell Beach
A favourite amongst Broome locals, and quiter to other better known beaches, Reddel Beach can only be access by 4WD along unsealed Kavite Road, only a few minutes on from Gantheume Point. If you visit on hide tide, you may just witness the stunning spectacle where the ocean meets the pindan cliffs and the ochre colour bleeds into the normally crystal blue waters.
31. Bali Hai Resort and Spa
If you are after a little R&R, indulge in some relaxation at the Bali Hai Resort and Spa. This tranquil retreat offers luxurious spa treatments, a serene environment, and offers beautiful surroundings. It’s the perfect place to escape the kids, travel planning and to have a moment to unwind.
32. Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm
Take a drive up to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, one of Australia’s oldest and most renowned pearl farms. Take a tour to learn about pearl farming processes, see the cultivation of pearls firsthand, and even purchase high-quality pearls directly from the source. We joined the 1 hour Pearl Farm Discovery Tour and found it really family friendly, yet still informative.

33. Broome Historical Museum
Dive into Broome’s rich past at the Broome Historical Museum. Exhibits cover the town’s pearling industry, Aboriginal culture, and wartime history. The museum’s collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents provides a fascinating glimpse into how Broome evolved into the vibrant town it is today.
34. Swap a Book
While in Broome we came across the best book swap we had seen on our travels around Australia. The book swap was located at Tarangau Caravan Park in Cable Beach. You don’t have to stay there to use the book swap, but its very much bring one book to get one book. There was even a small kids section! Win for all involved.
35. Broome Skate Park
Our boys loved their visit to the Broome Skate Park. Even on a Saturday it wasn’t overly busy! Theres plenty of space for all ability levels and a mix of scooters, skateboards and bikes.
36. Broome Recreation & Aquatic Centre
If jumping into the ocean isn’t your thing, have a swim at the rec centre. Jump online to check when lanes are available. They also have a heap for the kids going on in school holidays too – so have a look!
People plan to stay a few days, most end up staying at least a week and weve met many travellers who have either stopped to work or resettled in Broome after travelling! It really does offer a diverse range of activities that cater to every interest, from natural landscapes and historical sites to cultural experiences and outdoor adventures. Whether you’re a beach lover, history buff, or adventure seeker, this charming little place has something special to offer.
Enjoy your visit to Broome!
