Our Story

July 2022, post crazy covid lockdowns, my husband and I managed a sneaky lunch date while the kids were at daycare. We got onto the topic of how hectic our lives had become so quickly post lockdowns, mentally and physically draining and we weren’t filling our cups with our priorities.

Somewhere in that conversation hubby mentioned he’d heard this quote. ‘That you only have 18 summers with your kids’. Once you unpack this a little bit, you realise that some summers have already passed and that by the time your kids are 15 they will have part time jobs, friends, sports etc to keep them busy and therefore you don’t really have anywhere near 18 summers left.

After that conversation a book I stumbled across and read during Covid, ‘Die with Zero’ (Bill Perkins), came to life and has shifted how Geo and I have planned out our future. We had always planned to work hard, invest and retire at 50, at which point we realised, Reuben our eldest son would be 18! It dawned on us that we would miss everything.

Once spoken aloud, both of us took that reality as a huge slap in the face, a wakeup call to start making a concerted effort to make lasting memories with our kids from today.

At that moment, we decided that each weekend, no matter how busy, we would spend time as a family doing something we had never done before. Alas #thefamilyfind was born!

So here we are, Geo (hubby), Reuben and Eli (our two awesome little boys) and I (Sam) sharing our adventures and hoping to inspire you to embark on your own ‘FamilyFind’, filling your buckets with what’s most important in your life.

Fast forward 15 months from that sneaky lunch date and we are about to take #thefamilyfind to the next level as we embark on a trip of a lifetime around Australia in a 17f caravan. Four of us living in 10 square meters!!! Here to embrace taking chunks of time off out of the workforce throughout our life to truly embrace what we have today. Health, time and each other.
