I do like to track our family spend (although not to the nearest $), particularly when we are saving for longer term goals!

As we embark on our lap of Australia, I’m preparing myself to stop full time work for the first time. I’m a little anxious to be honest. I’ve never not worked and our life is so busy. I’m so excited for this new adventure, but know I’ll definitely need a few things to keep my mind busy.

One of the things I want to do, to ensure we don’t go too hot out of the gates, is capture our expenses. I’ve created a Travel Spend Tracking Tool spreadsheet that will track lots of sub-categories of spend and automate a month and year in review to keep things simple and show us where we are at just a glance.

I have put together a little video of how it works, but simply use ‘sheet one’ to make any adjustments. Add in the month in the top left and the date in cell G3 and the rest is automated. You can change any of the categories highlighted in yellow to suit your own needs. As you move onto month 2, move to ‘month two’ tab at the bottom of the file and repeat for each following month. Remember ‘month one’ is your home sheet, so only make 2 category changes on this.

For a bit of fun this spreadsheet also tracks types of stays, fuel litres and average price per litre of fuel for the week/ month/ year as well as the type of weather.

Hope you find this useful,

@thefamilyfind
